eduGAIN Governance

The eduGAIN Constitution outlines the governance of the service. This is formed by two groups:
  • The eduGAIN Executive: a body nominated by the sponsors of the eduGAIN service and is responsible for ratifying certain decisions of the eduGAIN Steering Group.
  • The eduGAIN Steering Group: a body that consists of Member Federations’ representatives and has an oversight role in the eduGAIN service.

eduGAIN Executive

The eduGAIN Executive Committee comprises representatives from organisations that fund eduGAIN operations. As GÉANT is currently the sole funder of the eduGAIN service, the role of the Executive Committee is undertaken by the GÉANT Board. As such all voting and approval processes are managed via the existing Board mechanisms.

In addition to constitutional responsibilities, in order to support the operations of the eduGAIN service as funders, the eduGAIN Executive Committee is also responsible for:

  • Ensuring an appropriate business model for eduGAIN.
  • Ensuring an appropriate operational and support team are in place for eduGAIN.
  • Making appropriate changes to the Executive Committee structure and mechanisms to reflect changes in the eduGAIN business model as required.

eduGAIN Steering Group

The eduGAIN Steering Group is a body that consists of Member Federations’ representatives and has an oversight role in the eduGAIN service. Each Member Federation appoints a delegate and deputy to the eduGAIN Steering Group (eSG). The eduGAIN Steering Group may also invite non-voting observers to its meetings and mailing list.

The names and contact details of eSG members and their deputies are given in the list below:
